Playground
video scenography
A performance where black-and-white video projections serve as a dynamic interface between movement and live electronic music. Featuring ironic AI-driven tutorials on moral codes, the visuals unfold in geometric compositions and coded patterns, evolving in direct correlation with sound. As the performance progresses, the projections grow in complexity, mirroring the increasing intensity of the choreography and music.
Playground is the fourth and final chapter of Of Humans and Other Artifacts, a Tanztheater piece for five dancers, written by Marion Zurbach and produced by Unplush. The work examines the relationship between humans and their creations, resonating with both fascination and unease. Through rituals, imitation games, and evolving interactions, the dancers explore different layers of human identification—physical, functional, emotional, and symbolic.
Within this framework, the video projections serve as a central scenographic element, presenting a series of ironic tutorials delivered by an artificial intelligence on fundamental moral codes. The black-and-white visuals, composed of elementary geometries and intricate coded patterns, act as a dynamic interface between sound and choreography. Closely intertwined with the live electronic music, the projections evolve in direct correlation with the sound, reinforcing the rhythmic and structural progression of the piece. As the performance unfolds, the visuals grow in complexity, the music intensifies, and the dancers’ movements escalate toward an increasingly incoherent resolution.
